Lesson 3.4
The Recovery Position: Step-by-Step
After a seizure has stopped, the person may be unconscious or very drowsy. Placing them in the recovery position helps keep their airway clear and allows saliva or vomit to drain safely.
01Check breathing
Kneel beside the person and check that they are breathing normally.
02Roll onto side
Gently roll them onto their side.
03Open airway
Tilt the head slightly back to keep the airway open.
04Stabilise
Bend the top leg and support the head to keep them stable.
Remember:
Stay with the person until they are fully awake and aware. If breathing becomes difficult or you are concerned about their condition, call 999.
