Epilepsy First Aid Course

Lesson 3.5

Recovery & Ongoing Support

First aid does not stop when the shaking stops. When the seizure stops, the person may feel confused, tired, embarrassed, or distressed.

Continue to support them calmly:

  • Check their breathing
  • Place them in the recovery position if they are not fully alert
  • Stay with them until fully conscious
  • Speak calmly and reassure them
  • Check for injuries
  • Respect their dignity and privacy

Note:

It is common for someone to feel tired, confused, or emotional after a seizure. Crowds can increase confusion and distress, so ask others to give space.
