Epilepsy First Aid Course

Lesson 2.9

Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs)

Some individuals with epilepsy will have an Individual Healthcare Plan or care plan in place. This document outlines how their condition should be managed and what to do in the event of a seizure.

An IHP may include:

  • Type of seizures experienced
  • Typical seizure duration
  • Known triggers
  • Medication details
  • When to call emergency services
  • Emergency contact information

Note:

  • Be aware if a care plan exists
  • Follow the plan if available
  • Do not administer medication unless trained and authorised
  • Escalate concerns according to workplace or school policy

Detailed guidance on creating and managing care plans is covered in the Epilepsy Awareness course.
