What To Do During a Seizure: Step by Step

Stay Calm

Remain calm and reassure others nearby.

Protect from Injury

Move objects away from the person.

Cushion the Head

Support the head and roll them onto their side if possible.

Do Not Restrain

Do not try to hold the person down.

Nothing in the Mouth

Never place objects or fingers in their mouth.

Time the Seizure

Note when the seizure starts and ends.

Recovery Position

When the seizure has stopped, place them in the recovery position if needed and safe to do so.

Note:

  • Most seizures stop naturally within 2–3 minutes
  • Your role is to keep the person safe until the seizure ends
