The Recovery Position: Step-by-Step

After a seizure has stopped, the person may be unconscious or very drowsy. Placing them in the recovery position helps keep their airway clear and allows saliva or vomit to drain safely.
- Kneel beside the person and check that they are breathing normally
- Gently roll them onto their side
- Tilt the head slightly back to keep the airway open
- Bend the top leg and support the head to keep them stable
Note:
Stay with the person until they are fully awake and aware.
If breathing becomes difficult or you are concerned about their condition, call 999.
