Recovery & Ongoing Support

First aid doesn’t stop when the shaking stops. This is where many people leave the scene or walk away too soon.

When the seizure stops, the person may feel confused, tired, embarrassed or distressed. Crowds can increase confusion and distress; ask others to give space.

Continue to support them calmly:

  • Check their breathing
  • Place them in the recovery position if they are not fully alert
  • Stay with them until they are fully conscious
  • Speak calmly and reassure them
  • Check for injuries
  • Respect their dignity and privacy

Note:

It is common for someone to feel tired, confused or emotional after a seizure
This is called the post-ictal phase
