Triggers and Risk Factors

Seizure triggers vary from person to person. Not everyone with epilepsy has identifiable triggers.

Common triggers may include:

  • Lack of sleep
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Missed medication
  • Illness or fever
  • Alcohol or substance use
  • Flashing lights (for some individuals)

Note:

Triggers are individual
What affects one person may not affect another
Avoid making assumptions about what caused a seizure
