Call 999 for emergency help if:
- It’s the person’s first seizure
- The seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, or longer than is normal for them
- They have multiple seizures without regaining consciousness
- They have trouble breathing after the seizure
- They’re injured during the seizure
- They don’t wake up or regain full consciousness afterward
- The cause of the seizure is unknown
- The seizure happens in water
- You suspect status epilepticus (a seizure lasting more than 5 minutes or back-to-back seizures without recovery)
- You’re unsure or worried about their condition
